Dr. Soyoung Lee is an esteemed Asian art scholar and museum leader who will become the Barbara Bass Bakar Director and CEO of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco in April 2025. She currently serves as the Chief Curator at the Harvard Art Museums, where she has led collections, exhibitions, and training programs since 2018. Previously, she spent 15 years at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as its first curator of Korean art, significantly expanding the visibility of Korean culture in the U.S. A graduate of Columbia University with a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in art history, Dr. Lee is also a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University and brings a global perspective shaped by her experiences living across Asia, Europe, and the United States.
