MoMA PS1 presents Greater New York 2026, the sixth edition of its signature survey exhibition dedicated to artists living and working in the New York City area. Coinciding with the museum’s 50th anniversary, the exhibition brings together more than 50 multidisciplinary artists, highlighting emerging practices and diverse perspectives shaping the city’s contemporary cultural landscape.
Occupying all levels of MoMA PS1’s historic former school building, Greater New York 2026 features site-specific commissions, newly produced works, performances, and significant recent projects. Together, these works examine the social, political, and technological forces influencing everyday life in New York, addressing urgent concerns including surveillance, economic instability, and rapidly evolving technologies.
Organized for the first time by MoMA PS1’s entire curatorial team, the exhibition explores how artists respond to shifting urban conditions through strategies of resistance, adaptation, and creative experimentation. Moving across disciplines and artistic approaches, the participating artists reflect the complexities of contemporary metropolitan life, capturing both the anxieties and possibilities of a city in constant transformation.
Through its focus on artistic practices rooted in New York’s diverse communities, Greater New York 2026 offers a multifaceted portrait of the city as a site of cultural exchange, experimentation, and resilience. The exhibition highlights the ways artists engage with the layered experiences of urban life while imagining alternative perspectives on the present and future.
