The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has officially launched its first independent bookstore outside its New York flagship, opening doors in Seoul on September 8, 2025.
A New Cultural Node in Dosan Park
The bookstore is located in Dosan Park, Apgujeong, and was developed in partnership with Hyundai Card—a long-standing collaborator of MoMA. Over nearly two decades, Hyundai Card and MoMA have supported cultural exchange through exhibitions, digital projects, and curatorial programs.
What to Expect Inside
Visitors to the bookstore will find over 1,100 carefully curated titles spanning modern and contemporary art, architecture, design, and photography. Many are exhibition catalogues and museum publications, complemented by decorative and design objects drawn from the MoMA Design Store collection.
The store’s interior unfolds in two distinct zones:
A quiet, neutral-toned library area, where books take center stage against minimalist gray backgrounds.
A vibrant retail section bathed in bold yellows and oranges, showcasing design goods and museum merchandise in a more expressive setting
Cultural Significance & Context
This new bookstore is more than a retail space—it is a symbolic extension of MoMA’s reach and a physical anchor for cross-cultural exchange. It reflects Seoul’s growing stature as a cultural hub and deepens the ongoing MoMA–Hyundai Card partnership, which has included exhibitions and a “Digital Wall” that mirrors works between New York and Seoul.
